Here, we will go through a list of new WhatsApp features expected to be launched in 2023.
Picture-in-Picture (PIP) for video calls on iOS
Users can open other apps and multitask using the PIP mode on a WhatsApp video call. The video chat window can be reduced in size and dragged across the mobile screen while other apps are open.
The feature is currently available in Android, but iOS users can now enjoy it, too, once it rolls out. Whatsapp was reportedly testing the PIP mode for the last month and released the feature for iOS beta testers.
View Once text
Whatsapp will throw in a feature allowing users to send messages that can be viewed only once by the recipient. I will give users more privacy to keep their text conversations private.
The feature could be helpful to users who want the recipients not to retain any confidential and private information. It is a text alternative to the View Once photo feature available on Whatsapp. Currently, the View Once text feature is under development and is expected to be launched soon for beta testing.
Companion mode
Whatsapp users cannot use the same account on two or more devices. Users can link their profiles and sync their WhatsApp data using the Companion mode with multiple phones.
The feature would also enable users to operate simultaneously across iPhone and Android devices. When the feature is enabled, users will not be logged out from their main device when logging into another phone.
The Companion Mode feature has recently released its Android beta version and is soon expected to roll out in future updates.
Search messages by date
This is undoubtedly one of the best features the app is about to launch. Users can find the exact conversation they want by inserting a specified date.
Beta users are testing it, and it could launch anytime in the coming months. The app will release a new status feature that will enable users to share voice notes on their Status besides photos, videos, and links similar to the Hinge dating app.
Screen lock for WhatsApp desktop
WhatsApp is now working on allowing users to set up a password on the desktop app. The feature is already available to Android and iOS users, who can set up a security code to open the app on their devices.
WhatsApp web users can set up a security pin for the desktop app. Currently under development, the feature will be launched for both Windows and macOS in the coming months.
Call tab on WhatsApp desktop
WhatsApp will release a call tab exclusively for desktop users. Through this feature, users can sync the data of their WhatsApp call with the mobile and web versions.
It will pop up as a class tab within the WhatsApp app sidebar. The call tab is currently being beta tested on Windows.
The instant messaging platform is known for launching innovative new features. The company enhanced user security with updates that were a hit among users in 2022.
The Community feature, See profile photos of individuals and groups, and Message Yourself were useful additions to the app. With new voice, video, and message-enhancing features coming up, 2023 could turn out to be a memorable year!
