A new WhatsApp update will allow users on the instant messaging app to record voice notes and post them as status updates. It is currently being tested on the app’s beta version.

Quick Facts
- The voice notes will last for 24 hours, similar to a usual status update
- Normal users don’t have access to it as it is solely available for beta testing for now
- WhatsApp started working on the feature in 2022 and a stable release is on the cards
In addition to clicking images and videos, users can record their voices to post on their status updates. Users can now express their thoughts more articulately and establish a stronger connection with their contacts.
Unlike voice notes that can be exchanged in private chatboxes, users can share voice recordings with everyone on their contact list. Over the years, WhatsApp’s popularity has increased due to exciting new features introduced within the app on the regular basis.
It includes the option to make payments, share documents, share locations and send temporary or view once messages, to name a few. WhatsApp also provided a medium to business owners called WhatsApp Business to conduct professional matters with ease and efficiency.
Recently, it removed limitations on its proxy server availability to ensure everyone has access to the app. In particular, the app wanted to help people residing in war-afflicted countries or regions where WhatsApp access is blocked.
WhatsApp also provides end-to-end encryption that guarantees the privacy of the sender and the recipient. The app does not interfere in any exchange taking place between two users, even in circumstances where people use the app’s proxy servers.
So it comes off as no surprise that WhatsApp is now one of the most popular messaging apps in the world boasting more than two billion monthly active users.
What is WhatsApp’s new voice status update feature?
As of now, Whatsapp’s new feature is available on WhatsApp beta Android 2.23.2.8 version. If you can’t access it on your app, go to the Google Play Store and install the latest version of WhatsApp.
If it’s still not available or you’re unable to use the feature, wait for its future release. In addition, users can control the viewers for sharing audio updates on their statuses.
In other words, the status update can be limited to a few contacts through Settings. Users can create a list of their close or favourite contacts and grant them access to voice status updates.
Wabetainfo, the website that checks updates on WhatsApp said that “The ability to share voice notes via status updates is available for some lucky beta testers after installing the latest beta from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more users over the coming weeks. “
“People need to update their version of WhatsApp in order to listen to voice notes shared via status,” it added.
How to use WhatsApp’s voice status update feature?
For a Whatsapp voice note status, the maximum recording time is only 30 seconds. Like chat data, it will be end-to-end encrypted and will last for 24 hours like other forms of status updates.
Users can also delete the voice note status anytime necessary. Here are the steps to use Whatsapp’s new voice status update feature:
Step 1: Open Whatsapp on your device
Step 2: Go to status in the bottom left corner. You will see an option for voice recording within the option for text status
Step 3: Click on the icon to record
Moreover, users can go to the options “Status Contacts” and “Status Included” to create a personalised list of contacts who will be able to hear the voice note.
After selecting the update option, the voice note will be uploaded as a WhatsApp Status. Users are allowed to delete a recording before posting it. That way, the app gives more control to its users over their voice recordings.
