On Android
Here are the steps to block a contact on WhatsApp. You can use any method.
Via WhatsApp Settings
- Open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.
- Tap on the “three vertical dots” icon in the top-right corner. This icon is the WhatsApp Menu button.
- Select the “Settings” option.
- Tap on the “Privacy” tab with a “lock” icon.
- Scroll down & Tap on “Blocked contacts.” This option contains the list of your blocked contacts.
- Tap on the “add contacts” icon from the top-right corner.
- Select the WhatsApp contact that you want to block. Once you tap, that user will be added to the blocked contacts list.
Via WhatsApp Chat Inbox
- Open the Chatbox of the WhatsApp user you want to block.
- Tap on the “Three vertical dots” icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap on the “More” and then the “Block” option.
- A pop-up message will appear asking for your confirmation. Select the “Block” option.

Via WhatsApp Settings
- Open the WhatsApp app on your iOS device.
- To open the WhatsApp settings, Tap on the “Gear” icon at the bottom-right of your screen.
- Tap on “Privacy.”
- Tap on the “Blocked” tab. It contains the list of your blocked contacts.
- Tap the “Add new” option to add the contact of the user you want to block. The blocked contact will add to this list.
Via WhatsApp Chat Inbox
- Open the Chatbox of the WhatsApp user you want to block.
- Tap the user’s contact name.
- Tap on “Block Contact.”
- Select the “Block” button for final confirmation.
Via the Chats Tab.
- Open the Chats tab.
- Swipe left the Chat of the user you want to block.
- Tap on “More” & then “Contact Info.”

What happens when you block someone on WhatsApp?

Via the WhatsApp Settings
- Open the WhatsApp app on your smartphone.

- Select the “Settings” option.
- Tap on the “Privacy” tab with a “lock” icon.
- Scroll down & Tap on “Blocked contacts.” This option contains the list of your blocked contacts.
- Tap on a particular WhatsApp number or name whom you want to unblock. Confirm your decision by tapping the “Unblock” option on the screen.
- The unblocked contact can now send WhatsApp messages to you.
Via the WhatsApp Chat Inbox.
- Open the chat Inbox of the contact you want to unblock.
- Look at the bottom of the Chat. Tap on “You blocked this contact. Tap to unblock.” Tap on “Unblock” for final confirmation.
- The other way is to tap on the contact name.
